Red Mile
The second oldest harness racing track in the world, right here in Lexington. Racing, gaming, and Caesars Sportsbook since 1875.
About Red Mile
Red Mile is the second oldest harness racing track in the world, established in 1875. The iconic red clay track sits on South Broadway in Lexington and has been a fixture of Kentucky's racing culture for over 150 years. While Keeneland gets most of the attention, Red Mile has its own deep history and loyal following.
Harness racing is different from the thoroughbred racing you see at Keeneland or Churchill Downs. Instead of a jockey riding on top of the horse, harness racing features a driver sitting in a two-wheeled cart called a sulky that the horse pulls around the track. The horses are Standardbreds, a breed specifically developed for this style of racing, and they race at either a trot or a pace rather than a full gallop.
If you have never watched harness racing before, here is what to expect: the races are exciting and fast, the betting works the same as thoroughbred racing (win, place, show, exacta, trifecta, etc.), and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. You do not need to know anything about harness racing to enjoy it. Grab a program, pick some horses, place a bet, and watch the race. The regulars are friendly and happy to explain anything you want to know.
Harness racing runs from late July through October. Even outside of racing season, Red Mile is open year round for gaming and the Caesars Sportsbook.
Casino and Caesars Sportsbook
Red Mile operates over 900 gaming terminals year round, making it one of the largest gaming venues in Kentucky. The facility is open daily and does not require a racing season to visit. Whether you are into slots, video poker, or electronic table games, there is plenty to choose from.
The Caesars Sportsbook at Red Mile is a full-service sports betting facility where you can place wagers on professional and college sports. It features multiple large screens, comfortable seating, and a dedicated betting window. If you are in Lexington during football season, March Madness, or any major sporting event, this is a great option for watching the games while having some action on the line.
