Parking at the Woodland Art Fair
Everything you need to know about parking, accessibility, and getting to the Woodland Art Fair in Lexington's Aylesford neighborhood.
2026 Festival Details
The 50th Annual Woodland Art Fair runs Saturday, August 15, 2026 (10am to 6pm) and Sunday, August 16, 2026 (10am to 5pm) at Woodland Park, 601 E. High Street.
Admission is free. Average attendance is over 70,000 across the weekend, so plan to arrive early, especially Saturday morning, and have a parking plan before you leave home.
The fair is co-produced by Lexington Parks & Recreation and the Lexington Art League. The 2026 music schedule will be announced closer to the event.
Heads up: UK Big Blue Move-In overlaps with the fair this year.
University of Kentucky's fall move-in runs August 15 to 19, 2026, directly on top of Art Fair weekend. Expect heavier traffic around UK campus and the Aylesford neighborhood, especially Saturday. Plan to park downtown rather than near campus this year, downtown garages and free weekend meters are the more reliable bet.

The Honest Reality of Woodland Art Fair Parking
There is no festival parking lot. Woodland Park is a city park surrounded by a residential neighborhood, with no large dedicated lot for visitors. The official guidance from the Lexington Art League is that ADA parking is on Kentucky Avenue and "all other parking is available in the neighborhood surrounding the park."
That means everyone arriving by car has to choose between three real options:
- •Hunt for a free spot on neighborhood streets near the park (closest, but limited and competitive)
- •Park downtown for free in metered spots or in a LexPark garage and walk (about half a mile)
- •Take a rideshare directly to the park
The closer you want to be, the earlier you need to arrive.
Parking Options
Neighborhood Street Parking
Free / First-ComeFree public street parking is available on residential streets surrounding Woodland Park. Closest streets are along E. High Street, Kentucky Avenue, and the side streets running off them. Spots fill up quickly on Saturday morning, the earlier you arrive, the closer you'll park.
Watch for:
- •Posted street signs. Some Lexington neighborhood streets are part of the Residential Parking Permit Program (RPPP) and require a permit. RPPP zones are signed at the curb.
- •Driveways, fire hydrants, and "No Parking" zones, Lexington Police actively enforce during the fair.
- •Time limits posted on individual streets.
ADA / Handicap Parking
FreeDesignated handicap patron parking is available on Kentucky Avenue, on the side of the street bordering the park. No reservation required. This is the only festival-designated parking and is reserved for vehicles with valid disability tags or placards.
Downtown LexPark Garages
Paid / ReliableThe four LexPark public garages downtown are about half a mile from Woodland Park, a 10 to 12 minute walk along East High Street or East Main Street. Garages are open 24 hours.
The closest is the Transit Center Garage at 150 E. Vine Street (777 spaces), directly along the walking route to the park.
Other LexPark options:
- •Helix Garage, 156 E. Main Street (389 spaces)
- •Courthouse Garage, 105 Barr Street (518 spaces)
- •Victorian Square Garage, 350 W. Short Street (382 spaces, farthest)
Important: During downtown events, all LexPark garages switch to credit card only. Have a card ready.
Free Downtown Street Meters
Free on WeekendsLexPark metered street parking is free all day on Saturdays and Sundays. This makes downtown street parking a strong option for the Woodland Art Fair: park free downtown and walk the half-mile to the park. Meters return to enforcement Monday at 9am.
Note: meters are still subject to safety and time-limit enforcement on weekends, pay attention to posted signs.
Rideshare (Uber / Lyft)
Easiest Drop-OffRideshare is often the simplest option. Drivers can drop off and pick up directly along E. High Street or Kentucky Avenue at the park. Expect surge pricing during peak hours, especially Saturday around 10am to noon and Sunday afternoon.
UK Campus Parking
Not Recommended in 20262026: Big Blue Move-In runs August 15 to 19.
Many UK lots and garages near campus housing will be restricted or closed to general visitors during move-in. Even lots that are normally open on weekends may be cordoned off for residence-hall move-in traffic. For 2026, choose a downtown LexPark garage or free downtown street meters instead, the half-mile walk from downtown is more reliable than circling campus.
In a normal year, University of Kentucky parking lots and structures generally do not require permits from 3:30pm Friday to 5am Monday, with some exceptions. Campus is just south of Woodland Park and within walking distance.
Caveats, verify before relying on this option:
- •UK fall move-in is typically mid-to-late August, which can affect garage and lot availability for non-residents on Art Fair weekend. Check uky.edu/transportation closer to the event.
- •Visitors must still pay in gated structures even on weekends.
- •Always read posted signage at the lot or garage entrance.
Bike, Walk, and Transit
Woodland Park is in a walkable neighborhood. If you live in Aylesford, Chevy Chase, downtown, or near UK, walking or biking is often the fastest option. Bike racks are available inside the park.
LexTran buses serve nearby downtown, check lextran.com for current routes and schedules.
