Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council is the legislative body that makes laws for Lexington. It has 15 members total: the vice mayor, two at-large councilmembers, and 12 district councilmembers. The vice mayor and at-large members represent all of Fayette County. District councilmembers represent specific parts of the city.
What the council does
The council votes on city budgets, policies, and taxes. It sets local ordinances (laws that apply only in Lexington) under Kentucky state law. Members meet regularly for work sessions and voting meetings. Meetings are open to the public.

The Vice Mayor and at-large councilmembers serve four-year terms. District councilmembers serve two-year terms.

These 12 members each represent a specific district within Fayette County. Districts are numbered 1 through 12.
