About Lexington's Park System

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government manages over 100 parks and green spaces across the city. The park system includes everything from large regional destinations with sports complexes, lakes, and event infrastructure, to mid-sized community parks with walking trails and ball fields, to small neighborhood green spaces tucked between residential streets.

Parks vary widely in what they offer. Some are designed for active recreation (organized sports, playgrounds, dog runs, paved trails). Others are quieter, more passive spaces meant for picnics, casual walks, or simply having green ground nearby. Knowing what you're looking for goes a long way toward finding the right park.

About this directory

The park data on this page comes from LFUCG Open Data, the city's public data portal. Park names, addresses, acreage, and classifications are pulled directly from the city's records.

A note on completeness: LFUCG's open dataset may not include every park in Lexington, and some parks may appear under official names that differ from how locals refer to them. If a park you know isn't listed here, it doesn't necessarily mean the park doesn't exist. It may mean the official dataset hasn't been updated.

Coming soon: my favorite Lexington parks

The directory below lists every park included in the LFUCG dataset, but a directory isn't a recommendation. I'm planning to write detailed posts on the Lexington parks I actually use and have spent time in. Those guides will cover what's actually there, what's worth your time, and which parks fit which kinds of visits.

If you want to know which parks I'd actually recommend, those posts are on the way. The directory below is for reference. The editorial guidance is coming.
