The Honest Reality of Railbird Parking
Railbird is back at The Red Mile June 6 to 7, 2026, with Tyler Childers and The Lumineers headlining. Over 40,000 fans are expected over the weekend, and here's the catch: there's no public parking at Red Mile itself. Every attendee needs an off-site parking plan.
Good news is there are five legitimate options at very different price points. Here's the honest breakdown.
Parking Options
Greater Kentucky Credit Union (Steps from the Venue)
~$125/dayGreater Kentucky Credit Union at 1001 Red Mile Road is essentially next door to the festival entrance. They run paid parking during Railbird at around $125 per day or $200 for the weekend.
It's the most convenient option if money isn't the deciding factor, useful if you have mobility limitations, very young kids in strollers, or just don't want to walk after eight hours at the festival.
Lexington Clinic (Best Price-to-Distance)
$25 / $35Lexington Clinic at 1221 S Broadway offers 831 spaces at $25 in advance or $35 day-of. Tickets are sold through Eventbrite, and they sell out fast.
About a 10 to 15 minute walk down South Broadway to the venue. Security is on-site, and overnight parking is not allowed (cars must be off the lot by 1 AM). The walk down South Broadway is flat, well-lit, and direct.
If you're physically able to make a 15-minute walk, this is your best bet.
KSBar & Grille (Best Price-to-Distance)
Paid + Gift CardKSBar & Grille at 1030 S Broadway runs a paid event lot during the festival weekend. Historically, buying a parking pass includes a gift card to use at the restaurant.
Same 10 to 15 minute walk down South Broadway, same 1 AM cutoff for overnight parking. Check their Facebook or Instagram for current pricing.
UK Campus Lots
~$50 day-ofThe University of Kentucky opens four lots specifically for festival-goers:
- •Press Avenue North Lot
- •Press Avenue South Lot
- •Leader Avenue Lot
- •Press Avenue Garage (PS #6)
Cost is around $50 day-of, less than Greater Kentucky Credit Union but more than Lexington Clinic. All options are less than a mile from the venue. Opens at 10 AM daily. Card or mobile pay only, no cash. Overnight parking is strictly prohibited.
Solid backup if the closer lots are sold out, or if you happen to be staying near campus.
Downtown LexPark Garages (Cheap, but Walking)
Standard City RatesIf saving money matters more than minimizing walking, the downtown public garages are typically the cheapest option:
- •Victorian Square Garage at 350 W Short St
- •Transit Center Garage at 150 E Vine St
These run standard daily city rates, which are far cheaper than any of the event-specific lots. The trade-off: you're looking at a longer walk (probably 25 to 30 minutes) or a short rideshare. Realistically, most people who park downtown end up taking a rideshare the rest of the way.
This is the budget option for groups willing to split a rideshare.
Rideshare and Drop-Off
The official pickup and dropoff zone is across from 1141 Red Mile Rd, next to Bus Stop 810. Traffic attendants will direct cars to and from the zone.
Pickup zones get extremely congested after the festival ends each night. Plan to wait, or walk a few blocks away from the zone before requesting a pickup. Surge pricing during peak departure times can be significant.
A Note on Accessibility
Railbird does not offer ADA parking at the Red Mile itself. The festival's official guidance is to use downtown parking and accessible LexTran shuttles.
If you need accessible parking and want to be close to the venue, Lexington Clinic is your best bet from the paid options above. The walk is along a flat sidewalk down South Broadway, the lot has security and staff on-site, and the distance is genuinely manageable for most mobility levels. Greater Kentucky Credit Union is closer still, though more expensive.
Strategy: Plan Your Re-Entry
Re-entry into the festival is allowed until 9pm each day. This actually matters for parking choice. If you park downtown or at UK to save money, you'll likely want to leave the festival mid-afternoon for a real meal or a break, then come back for the evening's headliners. Plan that timing, the longer walks back to your car are less fun after a full day in the sun.
A Warning About Tickets
If you're shopping for last-minute tickets, here's something the official Railbird site mentions but most attendees miss: buying tickets from Facebook groups, Craigslist, or third-party brokers will almost certainly leave you stranded at the gate.
Railbird uses physical wristbands that are voided the moment they're tampered with. Once a wristband is removed from someone's wrist, even if they genuinely sold it to you, it's no longer valid. Security will turn you away. This isn't a scam concern (though those exist too), it's the policy. A real ticket from a real attendee in a Facebook group is still a wristband that won't work.
The only legitimate way to buy resale tickets is through Railbird's Ticketmaster Verified Exchange, accessible through the official Railbird site. That's the resale option Railbird supports, and the only one that guarantees a valid wristband at check-in.
What to Avoid
- ×Don't park on residential streets without checking signage. Lexington has permit zones near venues, and tickets are real.
- ×Don't show up at noon Saturday expecting easy options. The best lots sell out in advance.
- ×Don't assume Red Mile will let you park there. There's no public parking at the venue itself.
- ×Don't park anywhere with "Tow Away Zone" signage.
