UK HealthCare Parking in Lexington
Where to park for an appointment or a hospital visit at UK Chandler, Kentucky Clinic, and UK Good Samaritan. The short version: for patients and visitors, UK HealthCare parking is free. The part worth reading twice is what happens at Good Samaritan after 7:30 p.m.
UK Chandler Hospital and Golisano Children's
Park in the UK HealthCare Parking Garage (PS #8), 110 Transcript Ave., directly across South Limestone from the hospital. The garage phone is 859-323-8085.
Parking here is free for UK HealthCare patients and visitors. UK states this on the Chandler Hospital page, the patient amenities page, and the visitors page.
- •Getting inside without going outside: the garage connects to Pavilion A by a walkway on Level C.
- •Free shuttle from Level A, running 24 hours a day, about every five minutes. It serves the Emergency Department, Pavilion A, Pavilion H, the Ben Roach Building, and Kentucky Clinic.
- •Emergency Department: ED parking is in the same garage. Tell the shuttle driver you are going to the ED so you are dropped at the right stop.
- •The small lot at the ED entrance is drop-off only, with a 30 minute limit. Use it to let a passenger out, then move the car to the garage.
- •Golisano Children's at UK uses this same garage. There is no separate children's hospital parking.
- •Accessible parking: go to Level A for wheelchair-friendly shuttle transportation to the hospital entrance.
Sources: UK HealthCare, Albert B. Chandler Hospital, plus its patient amenities and visitors pages. The shuttle stop list is from UK's Markey Cancer Center parking page, linked below, which states that free shuttles on Level A serve the Emergency Department, Pavilion A, Pavilion H, the Ben Roach Building, and Kentucky Clinic.
Kentucky Clinic
Park in the Kentucky Clinic Parking Garage (PS #3), 140 Huguelet Drive, adjacent to the clinic. The garage phone is 859-323-5129. You can also park in the main hospital garage at 110 Transcript Ave. and ride the free shuttle over from Level A.
On cost, UK is not consistent, so here is exactly what it says. Its visitors page says parking at Kentucky Clinic is free for UK HealthCare patients. Its Markey Cancer Center parking page says parking there is free for patients and visitors. Both statements are published. We are not going to guess which one governs, so if you are coming as a visitor rather than a patient, ask at the information desk.
- •Accessible parking is on the ground level of the Kentucky Clinic garage.
- •One-day disabled passes are available at the information desks for patients without a state-issued permit.
- •Wheelchair assistance can be requested from the information phones just inside each entrance, at the information desks, or by calling 859-323-5581 from your car after you arrive.
Sources: UK HealthCare's Kentucky Clinic page, which carries the ground-level accessible parking, the one-day disabled passes, and the wheelchair assistance line including 859-323-5581; plus its visitors page and Markey Cancer Center parking page for the two conflicting statements on cost.
UK Good Samaritan Hospital
Park in the hospital garage at 310 S. Limestone, adjacent to the hospital. Enter from E. Maxwell Street. There is no charge for parking. UK also lists free parking at the Medical Office Building, 125 E. Maxwell St. and the Professional Arts Center, 135 E. Maxwell St.
Gates are open 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and are lowered from 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
Leaving overnight? Get a ticket before you walk out.
Once the gates are down, no ticket is dispensed on the way in. To exit for free you need a preprinted ticket, and there are two places to get one: the Good Samaritan Emergency Department, for ED patients only, and the UK Security Fast Pass Station at the first floor entrance, for everyone else. Without one there is a $25 exit fee, payable by credit card.
Check this one at the desk. UK dates this garage policy "Effective March 1, 2020." That is the date UK HealthCare prints on the Good Samaritan parking section, and the section has not visibly been updated since. It is what UK publishes today, so it is what we report, but gate hours and exit fees are exactly the kind of thing that changes quietly. Confirm the current rule at the information desk before you count on it.

Valet parking at the Markey Cancer Center
Valet is the one UK HealthCare parking service that is not available everywhere. It runs at the Markey Cancer Center only, for Markey outpatients and the people accompanying them.
- •Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- •Drive to the circle in front of the Ben Roach Building.
- •Complimentary, and attendants do not accept tips.
- •Vehicles modified for accessibility cannot be valet parked.
- •Need your car after 7:30 p.m.? Call the Emergency Department transport van at 859-983-7323. The van retrieves your keys and escorts you to your vehicle.
Visitors and non-Markey patients park in the Chandler garage or the Kentucky Clinic garage instead.
Source: UK HealthCare, Markey Cancer Center parking, which states that valet is a complimentary service and that attendants do not accept tips. The same page is the source for the shuttle stop list in the Chandler section above.
These garages are monitored
Free does not mean unwatched. UK uses fixed license plate recognition cameras at the entry and exit of its UK HealthCare patient parking facilities, and its UK HealthCare parking policy A10-055 carries a $100 fine for unauthorized patient and patient visitor parking.
If you are cited and you were genuinely there for care, UK's review process may ask you to supply the patient's name and the appointment date and time. Worth knowing before you park here to walk somewhere else on campus.
Source: UK Transportation Services' UK HealthCare parking policy page (transportation.uky.edu/parking/ukhc-parking-policy), which describes the fixed LPR cameras, the $100 fine, policy A10-055, and states that you may be asked to provide the patient's name and appointment date and time as part of the citation review process.
What UK does not publish
Two things people reasonably look for are simply not published anywhere on UK's sites, and we would rather say so than fill the gap with a number that looks right.
There is no hourly rate for the healthcare garages. UK Transportation's visitor rate list covers the Cornerstone and Sports Center garages, at $3 per hour with a $30 per exit maximum. The UK HealthCare Garage (PS #8) and the Kentucky Clinic Garage (PS #3) do not appear on it at all. For patients and visitors the published answer is that parking is free.
There are no posted garage hours for PS #8 or PS #3. The "24 hours" figure that circulates refers to the shuttle, which UK does describe as running 24 hours a day. Open and close times for those two garages are not stated on the hospital pages, the map page, or the facility directory. Good Samaritan is the exception: its gate hours are published, and they are above.
