About Southland
Southland is less one neighborhood than a street and the neighborhoods around it. Southland Drive runs from Nicholasville Road on its southeast end to Rosemont Garden on its northwest end, and every block of it is in the 40503 zip code. The shops, restaurants and services are on the street itself, and residential streets branch off on both sides. Seven registered neighborhood associations have a boundary on Southland Drive or within about a quarter mile of it, and they are listed below. Laid over the top of them is the Southland Association, a community association for the whole corridor rather than for one subdivision. The businesses are on Southland Drive itself. Marikka's, the Doo Wop Shop, the Local Lex Market and the Habitat ReStore sit together around one parking lot, which is where the street fair puts its beer garden. South of Wrigley, Winchell's, Guardian Savings Bank and HealthFirst Bluegrass are on the street too, and Lexington Fire Station 12 is at 399 Southland Drive. Southland splits three ways for elementary school and two ways for middle school, and every address feeds the same high school. We ran all 4,056 city address points in the Southland, Hill N Dale, Picadome and Deerfield association areas through the site's own school zone lookup. About 44 percent are zoned for Picadome Elementary, about 29 percent for Glendover Elementary and about 27 percent for Clays Mill Elementary. Picadome covers nearly all of the Picadome neighborhood and the streets toward Nicholasville Road such as Penmoken Park, Goodrich Avenue, Wabash Drive and Lackawanna Road. Glendover covers all of Deerfield, including Regency Road, Rambler Road, Burt Road and Moore Drive. Clays Mill covers all of Hill N Dale and the streets around Longview, Sheridan, Stratford and Fairfield Drives. Southland Drive itself splits by side of the street. The odd-numbered side is zoned for Picadome, and the even-numbered side for Glendover through the 200s and Clays Mill from about 300 on. The Picadome addresses go on to Morton Middle School, about 44 percent of the total, and the Glendover and Clays Mill addresses go to Jessie Clark Middle School, about 56 percent. Every address is zoned for Lafayette High School, and the lookup shows no change to any elementary assignment in fall 2027.
